Mission Statement

The Carmel Chamber of Commerce will promote business, marketing and networking opportunities to benefit its members professionally and economically.

I. Promoting the community
A. Visitor Center
1. Provide 100% volunteer coverage for the visitor center
2. Track and report number of visitors in person and on the phone
B. Guide to Carmel
1. Provide membership copy, editorial and proof final copies
2. Distribute 125,000 copies to visitors, visitor centers, inns and on the street
C. Community Directory/Resident Guide
1. Promote local businesses by distributing this local guide to 93921, 22, 23, 24, and 93954
2. Develop & provide editorial information to make a comprehensive community guide
3. Sell ads to support the chamber
D. Continue to work with local, state-wide, national & international media to promote Carmel
E. Redo and update Chamber website at www.carmelcalifornia.org
F. Form a retail roundtable to work with Carmel-by-the-Sea retailers
G. Fam trip for MCCVB staff
H. Participate in 2011 International PowWow in San Francisco
II. Creating a strong local economy
A. Continue to work with the Big Sur Marathon to get more runners & support to stay in Carmel
1. Put on an event in Devendorf Park during the event
2. Put on beer garden during car week
B. Work on Sustainable Tourism
C. Coordinate shuttles to the AT&T Tournament and the Concours d’Elegance
D. Economic Advisory Committee
III. Networking/referrals/exposure
A. Run a mini membership campaign to increase membership
1. Get non-member lists from city and shopping centers and develop target lists
2. Each board member talk with ____ potential businesses
3. Hold quarterly member orientations
4. Grow Executive Leadership Council
B. Retain current membership
1. Follow-up with members who don’t renew membership
2. Hold a membership luncheon
3. Run Awards of Excellence Program & put on awards dinner
4. Plan and coordinate 12 monthly mixers
5. Face to face visits from board members
6. Expand size of committees to include other members than board members to increase retention
C. Form a PR committee to promote the chamber
1. Inform members of chamber government input
2. Update the chamber Pine Cone page

A. Attend city council meetings
B. Work to build stronger relationship w/ city and other government entities
1. Invite one council member to each board meeting on a rotating basis

VI. Chamber Support
A. Give support to current fundraising events

C. Provide infrastructure

2. Job descriptions, notebooks for events
D. Learn new data base system that comes with new website
